Farewell To Compass Rose...

It all started when Captain (husband) said, "I'm gonna sell the boat". To which I exclaimed "what and why"?. "I like our boat"!

Citing all sorts of facts and numbers, many of which did indeed make perfect sense, (really, he had a good argument, since some of the argument included my comfort and hobbies) I agreed. Compass Rose went on the market.

With-in 2 weeks we had a buyer. That was fast. Compass Rose would be headed to Canada. We cleaned out all our boat "stuff" which included a large amount of "stuff" that apparently we could not live without. We dumped it all in the living room, figuring that soon enough it would be moved aboard the next boat.

Captain quickly found 2 boats that suited his fancy, and honestly mine too.

Boat #1 was incredible, we checked her out last year when she went on the market, but there was no way we could get her. She had 2 masts for goodness sake! 2 heads! And aft cabin, a fore cabin! No way, too much for us.

We looked at boat #2. In almost perfect shape, just the right size.

But wait, boat #1 just became bank owned. Should we give it a go? See if they will not laugh away our offer? Wow, they didn't! Captain and the surveyor headed down to the boat yard to inspect her.

Now, one of my most favorite sayings is "you either pay with time or you pay with money".

Seems that there are more problems with boat #1 than I have freckles on my forehead after a sunny day of sailing. The surveyor asked Captain if he wanted him to stop the survey (they were only part way through). The surveyor asked Captain if he wanted his honest opinion on whether or not we should buy this boat. This is the case, between boat #1 and boat #2, you either are going to pay with time or pay with money. Boat #1, time. Boat #2, money. Boat #1 ~ Captain can fix it (he is super handy and very skilled) but we would spend most of our summer fixing her up and hence, not sailing. Boat #2, ready to roll. Boat #2 it was.

Her name is Sea Mist.
